Season of Sneezes
If there’s one unfortunate thing about the spring time, it has to be allergy season. While many people would love to welcome the warm weather and blooming plant life, this can be an unbearable time for those who suffer from allergies; especially when the spring winds sweep through your backyard. As plants begin to pollenate, those who suffer from allergies can expect watery eyes, congestion, inflamed sinuses, and of course, bouts of sneezing outbursts. And the question everyone with allergies would like answered is, is there anything that can be done help alleviate the symptoms?
Another thing that can highly impact your allergy symptoms is your location. If you happen to live in a city with a high pollen count, you’re likely to have even worse symptoms than others. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation recently released a list of the most challenging cities to live in with allergies; based on the city’s pollen count, the amount of allergy medicine used and ratio of allergy physicians to patients. The list, titled Spring Allergy Capitals 2014, named Louisville Kentucky as the #1 most challenging city to live in with allergies; closely followed by Memphis, TN, Baton Rouge, LA, Oklahoma City, OK, and Jackson, MS.1Here are some tips that can help make your allergies less severe this spring:Keep windows closed; especially on warm spring days when allergens levels are at their highest.
If you’ve spent some time outdoors, rinse off once you get home so that any allergens that may have stuck on to you while outdoors can be washed off.
Wash your clothing, bedding and other linens often, as allergens tend to stick to fabrics.
Using essential oils that can be diffused, inhaled, or applied topically.
The good news is summer time is not that far away and hopefully most allergy symptoms have begun to minimize for some by now. However, I know there are still many people who are suffering from sinus headaches and congestion, which is why adding Youngevity’s Peppermint Essential Oil to your home would be great idea. Peppermint is not only known to help with pain relief, but it’s also a great, natural antihistamine. You can apply the oil topically, diffuse it, or inhale the oil by applying a couple of drops to your hands, rubbing them together and cupping over your nose. Other essential oils that may also help with allergy symptoms are Lemon and Lavender. Be sure to speak to your Aromatherapist specialist for more information on using essential oils.
