DMAE stands for dimethylaminoethanol. This is a compound in which small amounts are naturally produced in the brain and high levels are found in sardines and anchovies. As such, it is often sold by health-food producers as a supplement to increase "brain power."
Wholehealthchicago.com states that DMAE may be helpful in treating memory laspes, symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and more.
It appears to increase the production of essential brain chemicals responsible for short-term memory, learning capacity and concentration. It may increase levels of the Neurotransmitter acetylcholine and this is a chemical known to be used by the brain for memory formation.
DMAE anti-aging supplements seem to have led to significant short-term memory in animal studies. Sometimes doctors that are interested in nutrition prescribe DMAE to assist with memory issues. Studies are not conclusive but a 1995 mice study found their memory retention improved with DMAE. More research is needed.
On the Dr.Oz website, Nicolas Perricone, M.D., states that for decades he has been "extolling the virtues of DMAE as both a nutritional supplement and as a topical treatment to combat the signs of aging of the face and body."
The article goes on to state that DMAE is a powerful anti-inflammatory and membrane stabilizer. It can help maintain muscle tone in the face and body as we age because is helps cause muscles to contract and tighten under the skin.
The effects are almost immediately visible when topically applied in proper lotions! "The effect is dramatic." "There will also be an immediate reduction in lines and wrinkles." Fine and deep line appearance is reduced. There is an incredible, visible overall radiance and evenness of color and skin tone.
